Once the root cause of varicose veins is treated with laser ablation, AVTIC uses ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy to eliminate the smaller veins including spider veins. Ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy involves injecting a chemical agent into the problematic veins in order to shrink them. Overall, in two to three days symptoms begin to disappear and 70 percent to 80 percent of the unsightliness is gone. Ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy is performed on an outpatient basis in a doctor’s office, and patients can return to work the same day. Discomfort during and after the treatment is so minimal that it is relatively painless. Depending on the progression of your varicose veins, several treatment sessions may be necessary.
To follow-up treatment, patients need to wear compression stockings for two to three weeks, as well as walk for 30 minutes a day which helps to get the blood flowing as much as possible.
